Special Notes on the Word ‘Mascot’

If you’re a native Spanish speaker, you probably recognize this word. In Spanish, ‘mascot’ is ‘mascota’. Easy.

However, be careful. The Spanish word ‘mascota’ also refers to the English word ‘pet’. A pet is an animal that someone keeps for pleasure. My pet is my bulldog, Sancho Panza, and my mother has a pet cat.

So, in English, just remember that all mascots (in English) are mascotas (in Spanish), but not all mascotas are mascots. ๐Ÿ˜‰
